❓ Frequently asked questions
Where can I find a nursing room in Hsinchu City?
This page lists nursing rooms across every district of Hsinchu City. Under Taiwan's Public Breastfeeding Act, department stores, hypermarkets, stations, hospitals and government buildings above a certain size are required to provide one.
Are nursing rooms in Taiwan free to use?
Yes. Nursing rooms mandated under the Public Breastfeeding Act are free and open to the public. Some are on a specific floor of a building — check the opening hours listed here or ask at the information desk.
What facilities do they have?
By regulation they should have a chair with a back, a table, a power outlet, a bin, storage for expressed milk and hand washing facilities, in a private and secure space.
Can you flush toilet paper in Taiwan?
Yes, in most public toilets. Since 2017 Taiwan's Ministry of Environment has required public toilets to allow toilet paper to be flushed, and signs usually say so. Older buildings and some private premises may still ask you to use the bin — look for the sign next to the toilet.
Are public toilets in Taiwan free?
Yes. Public toilets run by the government are free, including those in parks, MRT stations, train stations and public buildings. Toilets inside department stores and convenience stores are also generally open to customers at no charge.
Do I need to bring my own toilet paper?
Most public toilets in Taiwan provide paper, but not all, and it can run out at busy times. Carrying a small pack of tissues is a common habit among locals and a good idea for travellers.
Are there squat toilets in Taiwan?
Both squat and sitting toilets are common. Larger stations, malls and newer facilities usually have sitting toilets, and accessible cubicles always do. Signs on the cubicle door normally show which type it is.
